We spoke with Managing Partner Trent Derrick to learn more about this family-owned business that has spent more than two decades helping organizations navigate complex environmental challenges with clarity and confidence.
What year was your business founded, and how did it get started?
“The business was founded in 1999 by Donnie Lane, following the purchase of the laboratory division of MidSouth Testing. The original goal was to meet a growing local need for reliable environmental testing and regulatory support for industries and municipalities in the area."
"Over the past 26 years, that initial vision has expanded into a comprehensive environmental services firm supported by advanced laboratory capabilities and a team of highly skilled professionals.”
Describe your business, including its history, products, or services.
“Enersolv is a multi-generational, family-owned company where 'family' extends beyond leadership to the entire team. Many employees have been with the organization for decades, creating a culture built on trust, experience, and shared responsibility."
"In 2020, the company acquired Southern Environmental Testing (SET), allowing services to expand and providing clients with a more complete, streamlined solution. Since then, operations have continued to grow, including expanded lab capabilities and investments in adding new technology and backup equipment to ensure continuity and reliability."
"The majority of our laboratory testing is completed in-house at our Decatur and Florence facilities, ensuring speed and consistency. When highly specialized analyses are required, we partner with trusted accredited laboratories to maintain the highest standards of accuracy and reliability. Enersolv and SET also remain the only environmental laboratory of its kind based in Decatur."
"We provide laboratory testing and environmental compliance support for businesses, municipalities, schools, and industrial facilities. Some of the support services include permitting assistance, regulatory guidance, remediation, site assessments, and complete sample collection and delivery services.”
What makes your business stand out?
“The ability to provide real solutions. It often begins with a phone call and continues with hands-on support that brings clarity to a complex field. Clients are not handed off to call centers or automated systems. They work directly with a responsive team that understands their situation and takes ownership of the outcome.”
What are your goals or plans for the future?
“Plans are already in place to expand the current laboratory in 2026, allowing the team to better serve laboratory customers with updated and redundant equipment to ensure consistent turnaround time and expand into new test methods. Looking ahead, our long-term goal is to expand services further into South Alabama.”
Share a recent highlight or achievement for your business.
“The past year has been the most successful to date. Growth in both consulting and laboratory services has allowed the company to serve more clients while continuing to invest in people, equipment, and processes.”
What are you most proud of when it comes to your business?
"The people. From long-tenured employees to the next generation watching from the sidelines, there is deep pride in the work being done and the impact it has on the community. Our employees live in the communities we serve and take pride in work that directly benefits their neighbors and fellow residents."
