Chamber’s ProsperityPAC announces additional endorsements
ProsperityPAC is the political action committee of the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce and is formed to support candidates and issues that impact both public and private sector economic and community development, as well as encouraging citizens to seek public office.
Based on past records and candidate understanding of the Chamber's mission and public policy agenda, the Board of Directors of ProsperityPAC at this time have voted to support the following candidates in the upcoming municipal candidate election -- set for Tuesday, Aug. 23:
• Decatur City Council - District 2: Jake Reed
• Decatur City Council - District 3: Gary Hammon
• Decatur City School Board – District 2: Joe Propst
“The three candidates we endorse today best align with the Chamber’s public policy agenda and represent our mission of economic growth and community development,” said John Seymour, secretary/treasurer of ProsperityPAC and president and CEO of the Chamber.
Seymour continued, “Jake Reed is a small business owner and has presented a platform to address community poverty. Community poverty contributes to low test scores in our schools, which is a Chamber concern. He fully understands our agenda.”
“Gary Hammon has and continues to be a very strong supporter of the Chamber’s pro-business agenda. He has led efforts to recruit and secure jobs and business for our community,” Seymour said.
“Joe Propst has shown leadership with a very effective Decatur City Schools Board through the development of new facilities and the hiring of a quality superintendent,” Seymour said. “We hope to maintain consistency in this outstanding school board.”
Earlier this month, the PAC board endorsed Eugene McNutt for District 4 and Chuck Ard for District 5 as candidates for City Council in the upcoming elections. We encourage all Chamber members to exercise their right to vote and hope they would consider supporting those candidates that support business and community issues that impact us all.
ABOUT PROSPERITYPAC: ProsperityPAC was established by members of the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce who believe in order to promote the maintenance of the free enterprise system, there should be an opportunity for widespread participation in the political process by members of the Chamber, their employees and others who may wish to take part. This separate fund was set up to promote and facilitate the receipt of voluntary contributions in support of various candidates for election to state and local offices in Alabama.
