Pamela Bolding Honored with 2023 ATHENA Leadership Award
On December 13, Pamela Bolding was honored with the ATHENA Leadership Award at the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce’s 14th annual Women in Business Celebration at DoubleTree by Hilton Decatur Riverfront.
Named for the Greek goddess of wisdom, as well as the champion of justice and law, the ATHENA Leadership Award is presented across the world by chambers of commerce, women's organizations and universities. It is an international program and is promoted by local organizations.
Pamela, a licensed social worker, and her husband Tim have been co-directors at the Neighborhood Christian Center (NCC) since 2006. Over the years, they have expanded their services beyond clothing and food and into relationship building and discipleship.
“Through their careful use of resources, they have built a solid foundation for the center. They have prepared it to weather storms and handle future needs for the community. Additionally, they have a capable staff that continues to grow and offer more and more services to the community. God continues to bless the NCC and provide funds, volunteers and opportunities to teach people about Jesus while providing for the needs of so many people,” said Mark Waters who nominated Pamela for the award. “Pamela and Tim love the families of Decatur and their leadership as Directors of the NCC is an excellent example of why this award was created.”
The NCC offers over 40 different classes and provides resources like a food pantry, clothes closet, opportunities for summer youth leadership and a transitional housing program.

The luncheon also included a panel of accomplished female professionals discussing timely and relevant topics. Those panelists included Janelle Brown, owner of Brown Books & More, Kelli Powers, President/CEO of Decatur Morgan Hospital, Dede Quarry, owner of Tess’ Place and Miss Muldrews and Cheyenne Sanchez with Affinity Hospice and founder of Young Professionals of Decatur. Chamber Chairwoman and owner of MeritHouse Realty & Capital Management, Jamie Reeves, moderated this engaging discussion.
The Chamber also hosted a professional development conference before the luncheon. Attorney Christy Richardson with McBride Richardson P.C. discussed estate planning, living wills and health care directives and Dr. Ryan Cate Gibson, owner of Holistic Performance Group, shared tips from her book "The Four Rules of Confrontation."
