Community Building
The goal of the Chamber's community building programs is to address issues concerning community growth, enrichment and aesthetics, support policies and programs that create a sense of community in each neighborhood through the physical development of housing, schools, parks and recreation, promote an adequate community transportation system and establish and strengthen partnerships with public and private groups in support of goals.
Sub-Committees
Healthcare
The healthcare committee worked to increase the capacity of the Community Free Clinic and works to monitor community healthcare issues as needed. The committee continues to improve the quality and increase access to health-related services.
Transportation
The transportation sub-committee works to improve the road, water and air travel in Morgan County and Decatur. Focuses include seeking funding for controlled access improvements to AL-20, work with others to develop a frontage road and overpass system for AL-20 and promote the development of Veterans Parkway and the portion of Atlanta-to-Memphis Highway that comes through Morgan County.
Downtown Revitalization
The downtown revitalization sub-committee provides support for the Decatur Downtown Redevelopment Authority and assists them with the implementation of Envision Decatur plan. The sub-committee also works with Calhoun Community College in pursuit of a downtown presence and makes benchmarking trips to other cities.
