I want to take a brief moment to discuss what is on the minds of our community as we navigate what the next several weeks and months will look like for Decatur-Morgan County relating to COVID-19 in the State of Alabama and in the north Alabama region.
These are uncharted waters for our area, but we are all in this boat together and we’re going to find a new course as a community. In the short term, out of an abundance of caution and in accordance with guidance from the Alabama Department of Public Health COVID-19 Response Recommendations and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Chamber office is currently closed to the public while staff continues to be on duty and accessible by phone and email. Also, the Chamber has postponed Tuesday’s Cash Mob networking event, Wednesday’s monthly Board of Directors meeting, and our March 24 State of the City Address. We continue to evaluate the status of our events and programs over the next several weeks and months, and we will make announcements once information is confirmed. We appreciate everyone’s flexibility and understanding.
To support our business community, the Chamber is currently gathering resources for organizations of all sizes and sectors to help sustain through what we believe will be challenging times ahead. Once we have established a “one-stop shop” of information in the next few days, it will be available to the entire community. In the meantime, we encourage you to shop local Decatur-Morgan County businesses by adapting your commerce to – for example – calling in to-go orders at restaurants, shop local businesses online, purchase gift cards to use later, and recommend to your friends and family they do the same. We can each be an advocate for our local economy.
Decatur-Morgan County is a strong community with available resources to weather this storm. We will come out on the other side with the knowledge that when we support one another – be it in businesses, in community development, in churches, in schools and in neighborhoods – we will look back on this period and say Decatur-Morgan County was at its best when we came together. Thank you in advance for being part of that story, and know your Chamber is here to support you.
