Chamber announces staff updates
Crystal Brown, president and CEO of the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce, announced today that Director of Communications Grant Thompson will be leaving his current position Oct. 22 to pursue another strategic communications opportunity; Denice Marco will transition from Chief Financial Officer to the newly created position of Director of Program Development effective immediately; and Leissa Chittam – who retired from the Chamber as Chief Financial Officer in January after 29 years with the organization – will serve in a temporary role as Director of Finance until the position is filled.
Thompson is responsible for messaging and media engagement for the Chamber, including media relations, photography, electronic media, website and social media management, membership communications, and publication projects all focusing on the organization’s program of work. He is also responsible for public policy events, young professional leadership development programming, virtual event management, and the Chamber’s Fall Golf Classic and Clay Shoot Classic events.
“Grant has been a valued member of our Chamber team for more than eight years. In his position he has been responsible for the Chamber’s messaging and community engagement. We appreciate his service and wish him all the best in his new career opportunity.” said Brown.
Marco joined the Chamber staff in December 2020. In her previous role, Marco was responsible for managing the finances of the organization with the assistance of a finance committee, executing the organization’s financial strategy, and managing the Community Foundation of Greater Decatur. In her new role, she will be responsible for the implementation of the Chamber’s programs to include the Total Resource Campaign which is now underway as well as the fulfilment of program benefits.
“Denice is well-suited for this new position. She will focus on executing our current and new Chamber programs at the high level of excellence our members are accustomed to while also focusing on delivering significant benefits to our membership,” said Brown.
The Chamber will soon begin reviewing candidates to fill both the director of communications and finance positions.
