Chamber’s annual Montgomery, Washington D.C. trips set for spring; members invited to participate in public policy work

Thursday, February 5, 2015

RELEASE 15-001

The Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce announced today the plans to travel to Montgomery, Ala., and our nation's capital for their annual public policy trips to discuss the state of business with local representatives.

The trips – Montgomery, March 17-18; Washington, D.C., April 19-21 – are open to members and partners of the Chamber. The Montgomery trip will feature two days of meeting with the Morgan County Legislative Delegation to discuss the legislative process and how our area is represented in the state capital. The Washington trip – done in conjunction with the Huntsville-Madison County Chamber of Commerce – features meetings with local federal representatives, as well as meetings and speakers highlighting the defense, technology and transportation sectors.

"This Chamber is thankful to have strong relationships with our leaders in both Montgomery and Washington, and visiting each in their own environment gives members an understanding  what goes into representing the interests of entrepreneurs, small business owners, education and industry," said John Seymour, president and CEO of the Chamber. "Having the chance to spend time in both formal and casual settings allows the establishment of new relationships and connections that can benefit both our membership, the community and the work our representatives do on our behalf."

Past Chamber trips to Montgomery have featured meetings with governors, state senators and representatives, House speakers, commissioners, as well as local representatives. The Washington trip has featured visits and sessions with Sen. John McCain, Sen. Mitch McConnell, Sen. James Inhofe, Sen. Barbara Mikulski, Rep. Paul Ryan, former Central Intelligence Agency Director Gen. (Ret.) Michael Hayden, military officers and Pentagon officials, as well as Alabama Sens. Richard Shelby and Jeff Sessions.

For more information about either trip, contact Seymour at (256) 353-5312.

The Chamber thanks its Strategic Partners for their support.
