Decatur Fire & Rescue launches CPR program for businesses

Thursday, April 21, 2022

The City of Decatur’s Fire & Rescue Department has begun a new program to give businesses and community organizations the tools they need to save lives.

“Lend a Hand, Decatur” is Decatur Fire & Rescue’s new citizen-based CPR program that utilizes strictly hands-only techniques to increase bystander empowerment.

“Hands-only CPR can be demonstrated within a few minutes. We’re excited to enable more and more people to have the confidence to make a difference until more trained help arrives,” says Training Chief Christopher Phillips.

Current institutions that have participated in the training include: Decatur City Schools, Serra Toyota of Decatur, and Hardy Chiropractic.

“For every minute that CPR is withheld, a cardiac victim’s chance of recovery decreases by 10 percent,” says Lieutenant Brandon Sivley. “Our educational program can enable residents to provide immediate care in the interim until first responders arrive.”

Training can be requested by contacting Lieutenant Brandon Sivley at 256-341-4860.

The Chamber thanks its Strategic Partners for their support.
