For Media: San Francisco-based small business expert to keynote Chamber’s annual Small Business Awards Celebration May 13

What: The Chamber's annual Small Business Awards Celebration event recognizes the contributions of small business to the local and national economies and honors business leaders in our community. Approximately two of every three new jobs created in our economy are created by small businesses, and 70 percent of the Chamber's members are small businesses.
The luncheon is also an opportunity to highlight three area professionals with awards honoring their contributions to the business community. The three awards are the Baker-Cook-Jones Small Business Person of the Year, the Lynn C. Fowler Non-Profit Professional of the Year and the Arthur Orr Young Professional of the Year. Each award will be handed out Wednesday. The event is presented by Redstone Federal Credit Union.
Who: Cindy Yang, small business expert for NerdWallet, will serve as keynote speaker for the luncheon. NerdWallet.com is a San Francisco-based personal finance website dedicated to helping consumers make empowered decisions about their money. Their data-driven tools and analyses bring clarity to topics including small business, education, finance, health, investing and shopping. In February 2015, the site ranked Decatur as the eighth best metropolitan area in the country for those working in technology and engineering jobs. Yang teaches marketing for the U.S. Small Business Administration in the Bay Area and works with chambers of commerce across the U.S. on small business development.
