As part of our commitment to preparing the next generation workforce, the Chamber was excited to partner with Calhoun Community College for three summer camps during the month of June. During our 16th Annual SWeETy Camp (Summer Welding, Engineering & Electrical Technology Camp), twenty-four high school girls received hands-on experience in welding, electrical and 3D printing. The camp teaches the importance of safety and the intricate technological components of welding, electrical mechanisms and additive manufacturing, culminating with industry tour, class projects, and local businesswomen in the manufacturing sector sharing their experiences with the attendees each day. Instructor-led class projects included chain link lamps, 3D printed keychains and mini 3D printed cars.

We held two week-long CyberPatriot Camps, in partnership with Calhoun, where students learned about the field of cyber security from local industry leaders. The goal of these two camps is to offer students an opportunity to learn hands-on about technical skills that can lead to high paying, in-demand careers in high growth industries. The students were introduced to the field of cyber security by becoming familiar with Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems. The students gained experience in the areas of vulnerability identification, risk assessment, risk mitigation techniques, wi-fi security, IP addressing, and informational ethics. Students finished the week with a competition in which schools across the United States compete.

On June 21- 23, we held a three-day Advanced Automotive Academy, in partnership with Calhoun, where twenty-two high school students gained hands-on experience with electric and hybrid vehicles, built an electric motor and learned the basics of gas engines.
