Visitor Center at Wheeler Wildlife Refuge to Close for Renovations

The Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center in Decatur will temporarily close for renovations on March 13. It’s part of a $5.4 million federal grant project that includes renovations to existing buildings and exhibits and adding an outdoor classroom.

The facility is expected to be closed through October 31 and will include the visitor center, the Highway 67 access road, the observation building and the Atkeson Cypress Boardwalk. There will trail guides and maps available at a kiosk at the entrance to the visitor center.

Construction will begin in April. For more information on the closure and renovations, click here.
